Are you looking for classroom management that works? Sometimes it’s helpful to start with what doesn’t. In this course, Alex Kajitani walks you through three things teachers say that sabotage learning, and he gives you alternative ways of talking to students that encourage their education instead. Mr. Kajitani was California Teacher of the Year in 2009 and is the author of Owning It: Proven Strategies to Ace and Embrace Teaching.

Description

Teachers often have to make decisions about what to say and do on the spot. While teachers get it right most of the time, sometimes they say things that sabotage learning. In this course, Alex Kajitani walks you through three things teachers say that sabotage learning, and he gives you alternative ways of talking to students that encourage their education instead.

The course is divided into three sections. In each section, Mr. Kajitani covers the following information:

  • Examples of things teachers say that sabotage learning
  • What students hear when teachers say them
  • Important considerations to remember
  • Two to three alternatives to use instead of each example

Each alternative includes easy-to-remember phrases that you can implement in your classroom immediately. These alternatives will help you turn a potentially discouraging situation into an empowering one — both for you and for your students.
