The Depth and Complexity Framework is an approach to curriculum differentiation that helps students dig deeply into a concept and think about it critically. In this lesson, Kim Tredick provides an in-depth introduction to the Depth and Complexity icons, visual prompts that serve as critical thinking tools. The icons are foundational to the Depth and Complexity Framework. 

Ms. Tredick covers the following in her presentation:

  • A brief history of the Depth and Complexity Framework
  • An introduction to what differentiation is and why it’s needed
  • An explanation of the Depth and Complexity prompts and their icons 
  • Examples of easy ways to implement the icons
By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to identify ways that you can implement these prompts and their icons, enabling you to appropriately challenge your students in every subject.

    I just need an example of how to use icons that fits in secondary level or particularly in a Math subject. Also, there were parts of the presentation that has no audio. I couldn’t count how many times I refreshed my computer for the audio to turn on or play.
